Grimsby MRI Facility
Services involved
Project Information
We partnered with the Trust to transform an ageing modular office and entrance area into a modern, patient-focused imaging facility. The project involved disconnecting and demolishing the existing structure and constructing a new extension housing two MRI suites and a covered link corridor connecting the new building to the main hospital.
Our work helped the Trust deliver a significantly improved patient experience—reducing waiting times, increasing imaging capacity, and supporting faster diagnosis for patients, including those on cancer pathways. The new facility includes spaces for inpatients and outpatients, changing rooms, bed bays, recovery areas, offices, toilets, and MRI suites.
Our Role
As part of the scheme, we led the design of all mechanical and electrical services required to enable the safe removal of the existing modular building and the construction of the new imaging suite.
We produced a comprehensive services strategy report for the client, alongside a fire alarm cause-and-effect report and consequential improvement reports outlining ongoing maintenance needs and estate enhancement opportunities.
Mechanical services works included the creation of a new plantroom on the roof of the MRI unit and a series of upgrades, modifications, and extensions to the existing systems to support the new clinical spaces.
On the electrical side, we delivered amendments and extensions to the electrical infrastructure, including an extension to the CSSD 2 switchboard building to accommodate a new switchboard. We also integrated modifications to the fire alarm, small power, and lighting installations to ensure seamless operation across the expanded facility.
