Transforming a School
We were appointed by Balfour Beatty Construction to support the development of the mechanical and electrical services design for a two-stage tender at Greystones School. The project delivered a new building on a live site with 430 pupils, alongside the refurbishment and modernisation of a 1,300m² Victorian school block.
The works improved accessibility, upgraded teaching spaces, and supported the relocation and enhancement of key functions as the school expanded into its new facilities.
Engineering Smart, Deliverable Solutions
We began by producing a performance specification for the mechanical and electrical services to support tender procurement and establish a guaranteed maximum price (GMP). With a fast-moving programme, we were then asked to complete the full detailed M&E design, enabling immediate commencement of on-site enabling works.
Through close collaboration with the school and Balfour Beatty, we shaped a focused package of enabling works, supported effective construction phasing around the academic year, and highlighted key buildability issues to maintain safety and efficiency within a live school setting.
We also researched and prepared a sustainability report exploring opportunities for renewable and low-carbon technologies within the new building design.
